Recently, I found this classic for a somewhat reasonable price on ebay. I came ready primed, although the primer seemed to be a bit old, it was a rather dark white.
So for an easy first highlight, I drybrushed the mini a fresh white.
I then applied thinned Golden SoFlat Red Violet into the recesses. At this stage I discovered what is very apparent in the above picture: the mini was primed, but mold lines had not been removed… At this stage I didn't want to go back, as I already had three coats of paint on and did not want to start from scratch.
Main colors were applied as glaze, to let the two whites and the purple shading show through: Golden SoFlat Quinacridon Magenta and Golden SoFlat Cadmium Orange. The skin and scrolls were also mixed from these plus Golden SoFlat Bismuth Vanadate Yellow.
Over the magenta, I applied an oil wash with Schmincke Norma violet dark, removing it from the raused areas again. Into the base colors I then mixed Schmincke Zinc White for highlights. Lastly, I painted chaos runes with Pro Acryl Bold Titanium White.
Finally, I applied my usual base cover.
