After gluing the paper clip in place and bending it to my liking, I sculpted wood grain with green stuff.
For the Mephits, I drilled holes into their shoulder blades, into which I sank the wing joints and fixed them there with super glue.
The joints I then hid with miliput.
The miniatures were glued onto their original bases with a little peg that is cast at their bottom, which has a matching hole in the base. To get good adherence to the metal bases, I drilled a hole into each mini's bottom, and inserted a paper clip.
The paper clips where then bent and cut to position the mini on the base, and to provide a bigger area which could be glued to the base, than just the minis' feet.
