Heer Aufklärungspatrouille SitRep

During the confusion of the massive German breakthroughs, a Heer Aufklärungspatrouille (reconnaissance patrol) has gotten lost, complicated by the fast that the radio is kaputt (broken). It is late in the day and dark thirty is fast approaching. As the weary lieutenant and sergeant try and figure out WTF the patrol is, the first of series of green flares is seen lofting into the sky to the south east…
It is too late, and the men are too tired to risk a night march, so the patrol sets tight for the night, then moves out after first light in the direction of the flares…

Lost Red Army Straggler Platoon SitRep

During the collapse of the Red Army during the German invasion of Russia, there are odds and sods of desperate, isolated Ivans wandering around everywhere without a clue as to WTF is going on.
The survivors of a battered Red Army platoon, low on everything, and led by a Mladshiy Komvzvoda (junior platoon commander) have sought refuge in a brushy ravine for the night. They have no radio, no map, no compass (a not uncommon fact of Red Army life!) and lost the flaregun/flares along with their comrade toting them in a skirmish earlier in the day.
Nightfall is fast approaching when the first of a series of green flares lofts into the sky to the north west (the Mladshiy Komvzvoda thinks it is north west)…
It is too late, and the suvivors are too weary to risk a night march, so the Mladshiy Komvzvoda determines to investigate this first thing in the morning.

Scenario Rules

Low on ammo
The soldier may only reload his weapon once, then he is out of ammo. He may get a reload from a comrade though. When sharing ammo in this way, both run out of ammo on a 1 and 2 instead of only a one. Sharing ammo takes one turn, in which both models may not fire when active.
MG34 ammo boxes
Each box counts as one reload.
When the LMG operator is assigned a dedicated assistant gunner (not neccesarily the one depicted in the To&E), the assistant gunner can reload a LMG run out of ammo, and the operator can continue firing without forfeiting one turn.
A soldier can carry up to two ammo boxes. He may not fire voluntarily or in reaction though. In reaction tests he always counts as outgunned and may not return fire. To take up one or two boxes, a soldier may move (before and/or after picking up) but may not fire (not even in reaction, see above).

Game Info

  • Dice to see which unit arives on table first, giving the Heer a +1 to the D6 roll scored, because they are riding instead of slogging along on foot.
  • Dice to see which side of the table the Heer and the Red Army arrive on. All movement begins at the table edge.
  • The troops who arrive on table first, will deploy first and move first FOR THE FIRST TURN ONLY! Thereafter, movement is determined as normal in the rules.
  • Troops who arrive on table second will deploy second and move second FOR THE FIRST TURN ONLY! Thereafter, movement is determined as normal in the rules.

Terrain

Distant eyeball investigation by troops will reveal that the flares apparently came from a collection of wooden buildings (3-4 of them), which is apparently a deserted farm setting in the center of the table.
On site investigation by troops will discover that the flares were fired by soldiers unknown, who also broke camp and moved out shortly after daylight, leaving nothing behind to indicate which army they belonged too.
Other terrain features are:
  • A 6" wide fast flowing stream that runs from north to south, and is waist deep on a man. Current is flowing at 3" per turn. This is placed 12" from the eastern (dice score 1-3) or western (dice score 4-6) table edge.
  • Two small clumps of trees (6" by 6") randomly placed by GM, at least 24" from the farm.
  • And last but not least, there is a ravine 12" long, 2" deep , and 3" wide for most of its length, that is randomly placed on the table top at least 24" away from the farm, and the river. It is visible from ground level as defined the rules
