I had the Skulls Columns in my pile of stuff to do for quite some time. I then saw a floating, bleeding Khorne skull in an online blog, scoured the usual sources, and found this .stl which I decided to combine with the columns.
All in all I have to say I am pretty impressed with the Mini Monster kits; crisp detail, hardly any flash at all, no air bubbled, assembly fits very well. Totally recommended.
I placed the columns on 3cm ePVC, then glued casts of woodland scenics rock mold casts to form the basic shape of the pool.
When the glue of the rocks was dried, I carved out the center of the base, and glued a 0.5mm plastic card underneath. As mentioned before, I don't like my terrain, that represents depressions, to sit on a small hill. As long as it is removable scatter terrain (and not a fully modelled, fixed board) it needs to sit on top of the ground, but then I at least want it to be as close to the ground as possible.
With sculpta mold I hid the joints between the rock casts, and with smaller broken off rocks and sculpta moulds I incorporated the base of the pillars into the rocks; in the end I intend to have the bottom of the columns look like carved into that rock.
In a recent package was foam cushioning which saved from being thrown away. It is quite soft, but usable.
I carved flag stones and textured them with aluminium foil as a walkway / barrier of the basin towards the columns.
