Another terrain piece I had lying around for some time is the Chaos Swamp from Mini Monsters. Time to finally get it table ready.
First I had to saw the horns from the casting frame.
Then glue in the horns in the designated spots; both horns and holes were marked with corresponding symbols.
With later storage in mind, I placed the piece besides the Khorne Bloody Skull Tunnel and drew the base sizes on a sheet of ePVC in A4 size.
As mentioned before, I don't like my terrain, that represents depressions, to sit on a small hill. As long as it is removable scatter terrain (and not a fully modelled, fixed board) it needs to sit on top of the ground, but then I at least want it to be as close to the ground as possible. So instead of using the piece on its own (too steep of a rise of the surrounding berm for my liking), or mounting it on top of the ePVC base, I sunk the piece into the base.
This allowed me to bring it as close as possible to the table top, and as well re-design the emergence from the ground, with a less steep rise. I modelled the less steep rise with air drying clay. As this has a tendency to contract while drying, I did my best to stop the base rim from warping by clamping it down.
All in all I have to say I am pretty impressed with the Mini Monster kits; crisp detail, hardly any flash at all, no air bubbled, assembly fits very well. Totally recommended.
