Over the last couple months, I ordered more and more of the Golden SoFlat paints, as I really like their characteristics, like consistency and coverage, mixing with single pigment paints, etc.
Now I need a way to store them all. And to identify them in storage, without needing to take out every pot when I am looking for a specific color.
This is what I started with.
Identification
I designed some simple round labels in Inkscape, with color name, opacity and a rectangle to paint a sample on. I made them 1mm larger than one of the hole punches I own and punched them out.
I then glued them onto the lids.
Storage
To store them, I designed (also in Inkscape a pattern of pegs, the pots will rest between. The pattern was printed onto paper, glued to the MDF board, and then the holes from the pattern drilled through the paper into the MDF. I then ripped the paper off again.
Through the holes I punched nails. Into 1cm dowels I drilled holes with a slighty tighter diameter than the nails. The nails in this way get some grip, but will not split the dowels, which might easily have happened if I just hammered them in. And the vertical hole drilled also made the dowels stand upright closer to 90° than when I had freehanded the hammering.
The pre-drilled dowles were then hammered onto the nails.
