Scenario

The scenarion is Forlorn Hope, assaulting a fort.
The British want their cattle back! The French brought the cattle and the ingredients into a nearby fort, now time is of the essence, to take over the fort before it is too late to save the cattle!
Luckily for the Brtitish forces, the French were still celebrating their past victorie; half of them, those not on guard duty (well, perhaps also some of them…) were celebrating with some bottle of vin rouge…

Turn 1

French Defenders (Marc)

The guards on the walls repositioned based on the deployment of the attackers.

French Defenders (Niel)

The Officer tried to activate, but rolled snake-eyes – no guards poured out the house this turn.

British Attackers (Richard)

Most of the British rushed towards the walls.
Only the Rifles Chosen Men tried to fire their rifles. The first took careful aim, but nicked the wall in front of the French guard. The second could not draw a clear line of sight and advanced towards the wall to get into a better position.

British Attackers – Black Brunswickers (Matthias)

The Black Brunswickers advanced but still kept under cover of the trees.
image

Turn 2

British Attackers (Richard)

The first soldier reached the wall and placed his ladder, the rest was close behind.
image

French Defenders (Marc)

The guards repositioned to the position where the ladder had been placed. Shots at Brits further away were unsuccessful.
image
At the south end of the perimeter, the guards also fired on the attacking Brits: one miss, one wounded and out of action.
The French NCO fired on the Brit advancing at the corner, and knocked him down.
image

British Attackers – Black Brunswickers (Matthias)

The Black Brunswickers broke cover and rushed to the walls. One grou managed to reach it, the other only made it about halfway across the kill zone.
image

French Defenders (Niel)

As the Officer rolled a 1&2 this time, still no reinforcements cam forth.
image

Turn 3

British Attackers (Richard)

One storming Brit moved to the ladder on the ground and picked it up, the next Brit advanced up to the wall with the ladder he was carrying.
The Brit without a ladder quickly neeled down an took an aimed shot up the wall to cover his lads. The French defender had to duck down behind the parapet.
image
Near the corner, one Brit placed his ladder against the wall and started climbing.
image
One of the Rifle's Choosen Men reloaded his rfile, while the other took aim and fired at a defender, but missed.
The British Officer advanced.
The Birt at the second ladder to the corner climbed up and attacked the French, but he got impaled on a bayonet and his body thrown back down.

French Defenders (Marc)

One of the Guards hit an attacking Brunswicker with his musket and knockedhim down.
Around the corner, the NCO pushed an erected ladder away from wall, the Brit who had just started climbing it fell from about halfway up to the ground, but landed on his feet, uninjured.
The Grenadier fired on a Jäger carrying a ladder and knocked him down.
Another French fired on the front Jäger, knocking him down as well.
Yet another French fired an aimed shot at the Brunswicker banner bearer, and hit him right between the eyes – dead.

French Defenders (Niel)

The garçons in the house finally got roused by the Officer and started to leave the building, seemingly slightly swaggering… ah, le bon vin rouge. Already the third guy tripped (1&2)…

British Attackers – Black Brunswickers (Matthias)

image
The Brunswickers pressed on with the attack on their leg of wall, a second ladder got placed against the wall.
One Jäger climbed up to the parapet, a second climbed up to the top of ladder, and a third managed to climb halfway up.

Turn 4

French Defenders (Niel)

One of the (slightly drunken) French in the in the courtyard fired on the Jäger who had just scaled the wall and (depite being drunk) killed him.
More French poured out of the building… until the Officer botched his activation roll again…
image

British Attackers – Black Brunswickers (Matthias)

More Brunswickers scaled the wall. One of the French in the courtyard was shot down. the Sappeur managed to equal the dice roll and survive the shot against him. The Jägers also fired down the parapet, to make room for their comrades on the other ladder; two aimed shots resulted in one kill and on knock down.
image

British Attackers (Richard)

All ladders were set against the wall again. Most of the lads moved towards the southern wall where there were no French at the moment.
image

French Defenders (Marc)

The French were mostly busy reloading, until a dice roll ended their activation.
image

Turn 5

French Defenders (Niel)

The Officer, wanting to restore some order and provide encouragement on the wall, started to climb a ladder, ending his activation halfway up.
Next, a French in the courtyard fired an aimed shot up against a Jäger on the wall, but missed.
Due to too much vin rouge, the next French stumbled and ended the French tunf (double fail on two activation dice).
image

British Attackers – Black Brunswickers (Matthias)

One Jäger stabbed a French defender to death.
The dice in below image show the next activation roll…
image

More lads scaled the walls, some ending up halfway.
The first Rifle Marksman took another aimed shot and knocked down his target.
The second Rifle Marksman also took an aimed shot but missed (1 rolled).
image

French Defenders (Marc)

The NCO initiated a power attack on one of the Brits on a ladder. The NCO rolled a 1, the Brit rolled a 2; resulting in the Brit being knocked down the wall. But he survived the fall.
The Guard (two models besides the NCO) fired at a Jäger and knocked him down.
The Sappeur missed with his blunderbuss.
Next activation attempt – snake-eyes…
image

Turn 6

French Defenders (Niel)

The Officer engaged his British counterpart.
Two more French in the courtyard found their aim and knocked down a Jäger, each.
Next activation roll was botched.
image

British Attackers (Richard)

One of the Brits scaled a letter, engaged the French officer and attacked. The French nonchalantly plunged his sword into the Brits heart.
Another Brit on top of a ladder attacked a French defender, supported by his officer, and knocked the French down.
image
One more lad moved up the ladder to support his officer, by engaging the French officer from behind.

The first Rifle Marksman reloaded.
The second Rifle Marksman botched his activation roll.
image

French Defenders (Marc)

The French NCO fough5t against a Brit on the wall in melee – as a result, the NCO was put out of action.
This resulted in a Loss of Leader test:
  • three French failed and had to flee towards the central building
  • the French engaged at the south end passed
  • the French engaged at the west end of the wall fled, the free hack missed
The French on the south wall activated, attacked the Brit still on the ladder. The Brit was pushed down the ladder and broke his neck.

Turn 8

British Attackers – Black Brunswickers (Matthias)

The Jäger on the west wall fired an aimed shot at a French and knocked him down.
The second Jäger failed his activation roll (see screenshot).
image

British Attackers (Richard)

The Brit at the corner of the parapet fired at a French and knocked him down.
The officer rolled 1, 1 & 5 for his activatio which ended the turn, but allowed him one attack, which knocked down another French.
image

The French on the west wall attacked the Brit on the ladder but was killed himself.
image
The French had to take a Morale test for falling to below half strength.
  • the French on the west wall fled
  • the French engaged on the south wall surrendered
  • the French near the corner also surrendered
image
The attackers had reached their victory condition and the game ended.
